FRAMING SCIENCE AND FRAMING CONFLICT
My brother, Dr. Matthew Nisbet at American University, examines
framing, media, and public opinion as I do (with a well-read blog
entitled Framing Science), but within the area of scientific
controversy. He has an article in the current issue of Science
magazine about how scientists need to communicate their science to the
public better. He was also interviewed this week by NPR's On the Media
and has a Washington Post featured commentary in this Sunday's Outlook
section. Not only do these materials provide a good primer on framing
(see the Science article especially), Matt's basic arguments on how to
communicate facts and policies to audiences are relevant to many
